Chimney Cap Over a Crumbling Crown in Garland, TX

Ember Chimney & Fireplace installed a full-width chimney cap on a brick chimney in Garland, TX in October 2026. The mortar crown on top was crumbling and there was no cap at all. The new black cap now covers the whole top of the chimney.
The home is in the 75043 ZIP in east Garland, near Lake Ray Hubbard.
What We Found
The top of this chimney had been open to the weather for a long time. The mortar crown was rough, pitted and breaking apart at the edges. The square clay flue tile stuck up through the middle with nothing over it.

An open flue lets rain fall straight into the chimney. A crumbling crown lets water soak into the brick from the top. Both lead to the same things inside the house: a rusty damper, wet firebox, and a musty smell when it rains.
What We Did
We installed a black chimney cap sized to cover the full crown, not just the flue tile. The lid shields the crown from rain, and the screened sides keep birds and squirrels out of the flue while smoke can still leave.

Masonry Repair for Chimney Crowns
A cap slows crown damage down, but a crown that is badly broken may also need masonry repair. We look at the crown, brick and mortar joints on every visit and give you photos and a written price before any repair starts. Not sure what you need? Start with a chimney inspection.
