Chimney Cap Replacement in Dallas, TX: Crown Sealed and a New Cap Set

Ember Chimney & Fireplace replaced a chimney cap on a home in Dallas, TX in October 2026. Two technicians took the old cap off, sealed the crown around the flue opening, and set a new black cap in one visit.
The home sits on a tree-lined Dallas street, and the whole job was done from the roof.
What We Found
With the old cap removed, the top of the chimney was easy to see. The crown is a light concrete slab with a square flue in the middle. The joint where the crown meets the flue is a common path for water, so we dealt with it while the cap was off.

What We Did
First, we sealed the joint around the flue opening. That closes the gap where water can run down the outside of the flue.
Then we set the new cap. It is black metal with a hipped lid and screened sides. The lid keeps rain out of the flue, and the screen keeps birds, squirrels and leaves out.

Chimney Cap Installation in Dallas, TX
Caps in Dallas take a beating from summer heat, hail and spring storms. A cap that is rusted, bent or missing its screen should be replaced before water and animals get in. Our chimney cap installation page explains the options, and how much a chimney cap costs installed gives typical Dallas–Fort Worth price ranges.
Chimney Repair Starts at the Crown
The crown is the first line of defense against water. If it is cracked, sealing it now is much cheaper than fixing wet brick or a rusted damper later. Our chimney repair team gives you photos and a written price before any work. If your chimney leaks when it rains, read why a chimney leaks in the rain.
