Chimney Cap Replacement in Bedford, TX: A Full-Width Cap on a Tall Brick Chimney

Ember Chimney & Fireplace replaced the chimney cap on a brick home in Bedford, TX in October 2026. The old cap was a small one that sat on the flue only. We swapped it for a black cap that covers the full top of the chimney.
Bedford sits about 5 miles southeast of our Colleyville office, so this was a short drive for the crew.
What We Found
From the yard, the chimney looked fine. It is a tall red-brick chimney on a home with mature trees all around it. The problem was at the very top. The cap was a small unit that covered only the flue opening. Everything else on top of the chimney was open to rain, leaves and whatever lives in the trees nearby.

A small flue cap is better than none. But with tall trees overhead, leaves and twigs land on the crown, hold water against the mortar, and give birds and squirrels a place to start a nest.
What We Did
We removed the old cap and installed a new black chimney cap that spans the whole top of the chimney. It has screened sides, so smoke still leaves the flue freely while animals and debris stay out. The lid sits high enough that a strong North Texas storm does not push rain straight down the flue.

The new cap is also a cleaner look from the street than the small round cap it replaced.
Chimney Cap Installation in Bedford, TX
Brick chimneys are common in Bedford, Hurst and Euless, and many still have a basic flue cap. Those caps wear out, rust, or get bent in hail. Signs it is time for a new one:
- Water stains on the firebox or damper after a storm.
- Leaves, twigs or nesting sounds in the chimney.
- A cap you can see is rusted, tilted or missing its screen.
- Rust streaks running down the brick from the top.
Our chimney cap installation page explains the cap types we install and how we size them. If you want ballpark numbers first, read how much a chimney cap costs installed.
Chimney Inspection Before a Cap
When we are on the roof, we also look at the crown, the brick and the flashing. If something else needs attention, you get photos and a written price before any work starts. A full chimney inspection is the best place to start if the chimney has not been checked in a few years.
