Ember Chimney & Fireplace, Colleyville office 97 Village Ln, Suite 300, Colleyville, TX 76034 (817) 809-2184 Open 24 hours, 7 days a weekHurst is one of the oldest of the Mid-Cities. Most of it was built between the 1950s and the early 1980s, from the ranch homes around Hurst Hills, Hurstview and Mayfair to the two-stories in Walker Branch Estates and Oak Park Estates, and nearly every one of those homes has a brick masonry chimney with a clay tile liner. A 50-year-old chimney in Hurst has usually had a few owners, a couple of roof replacements, and no camera inspection, ever. The sweep with a photo report is the first step for all of them.
Ember Chimney & Fireplace sweeps Hurst fireplaces from our Colleyville office at 97 Village Ln, about 15 minutes north on Precinct Line Road. The sweep clears creosote from the flue, the smoke chamber and the firebox with rotary rods and a HEPA vacuum. The fireplace opening is sealed and drop cloths run from the front door to the hearth. That is the Zero-Mess Guarantee on every chimney sweep.
The safety inspection and photo report are part of the price. The technician photographs the firebox, damper, the visible flue, the smoke chamber, crown, flashing and cap and goes over the photos with you before leaving. If a repair is needed you get a free written estimate, and the $149 package is credited toward it for 30 days.
Older masonry chimneys are where the Level 2 camera inspection matters most. Clay tile liners from the 1960s and 1970s crack from heat, shift as the clay soil under Hurst swells and shrinks each year, and lose mortar at the joints. None of it shows from the firebox. NFPA 211 calls for a Level 2 inspection when a home is sold, after a chimney fire, and when the fuel type changes, and we recommend one for any Hurst chimney that has never had one. A chimney inspection on its own is $69; the camera inspection is quoted when you book. The post on why a Level 2 inspection matters before selling or buying covers what it finds.
The repairs we do most in Hurst are the ones that come from 50 years of weather on original masonry: a new crown, repointed mortar joints, flashing resealed or replaced after a roof job, and a cap on a flue that never had one. Spalled or loose brick is repaired under masonry repair. Liners that fail the camera inspection get a stainless steel liner through chimney relining; the cost guide on chimney relining prices covers the ranges. Every repair starts with the photo of the problem and a written price. See chimney repair for how each repair is done.
Many original Hurst chimneys were built without a cap, and an open flue lets in rain, birds, squirrels and raccoons. A chimney cap installation is the least expensive repair we do and the one that prevents the most damage. The post on how a custom outside-mount cap protects the whole crown explains the option for crowns that have already cracked.
Many Hurst fireplaces were converted to gas logs years ago, and those sets are now old enough to need service. We repair gas log sets and gas fireplaces (pilots, burners, valves, thermocouples, glass) and install new vented and vent-free sets. See fireplace repair and fireplace installation. Wood-burning fireboxes with cracked firebrick are repaired under fireplace repair as well.
Add a dryer vent cleaning to any Hurst sweep: from $79 for a basic cleaning and inspection on a run up to 5 feet, with a free estimate for longer runs. Older homes often still have the flexible foil vent behind the dryer, which we replace with rigid duct while there.
Our trucks are in these parts of Hurst (76053, 76054) every week. If your neighborhood is not listed, it is still covered: the whole city is inside the Colleyville office's service area.

Often yes, after an inspection. The common problems on chimneys that age are a cracked crown, no cap, washed-out mortar joints and sometimes a cracked clay liner. The first three are inexpensive repairs. A cracked liner needs a stainless steel liner before the fireplace burns wood again, and the camera inspection is what finds it.
Efflorescence: minerals carried out of the brick by water. It means water is getting in, usually through the crown, a missing cap or failed flashing. The inspection finds where.
From inside, through the firebox, with the opening sealed and a HEPA vacuum running. The technician goes on the roof to inspect and photograph the cap, crown and flashing.

Honest inspection with photos of the cap issue. No scare tactics, fair price, and they beat the written quote I had from another company.

Inspection was thorough. Got photos of liner wear and a written plan. Felt like a neighbor helping, not a sales pitch.

Had animals in the flue — new cap install was quick and the price matched what they quoted on the phone. Professional crew.
